February is Your Month to Get Heart Healthy
with Stepheny Sumrall, FNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, MSN, Cardiology
February is American Heart Month, and now is the time to reduce your risk of heart disease or heart attack.
Heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States. About half of all Americans have at least one of the three most common risk factors: overweight, diabetes, high blood pressure, excessive alcohol use or poor diet. These risks become greater in adults age 45 or older.
Heart attack symptoms vary in men and women. Both sexes may experience uncomfortable pressure or pain in their chest, arms, neck or jaw, and shortness of breath. However, a woman can experience a heart attack without chest pressure. Instead, they may feel pain in their abdomen, upper back pressure, extreme fatigue or lightheadedness.
